Complex Modulus of Pdms and Its Application in Cellular Force Measuremes

چکیده
ABSTRACT Cellular contraction is often accompanied by oscillatory motion of several Hz. Accurate force measurement using Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) micropillar based bio-transducers calls for the appropriate material characterization of PDMS in the frequency domain. In this work, the complex modulus of PDMS was measured using a dynamic nanoindentation technique. An improved method was developed to extract the complex modulus with the use of a flat punch indenter. The material properties of PDMS were further incorporated into a finite element model (FEM) to simulate the contraction force of cardiac myocytes.

Cancer is now a global concern, and control of the function of cancer cells is recognized as an important challenge. Although many aggressive chemical and radiation methods are in practice to eliminate cancer cells, most imply severe adverse toxic effects on patients. Taking advantage of natural physical differences between cancer and normal cells might benefit the patient with more specific cy...

Force-distance curve measurements using atomic force microscope (AFM) has been widely used in a broad range of areas. However, currently force-curve measurements are hampered the its low speed of AFM. In this article, a novel inversion-based iterative control technique is proposed to dramatically increase the speed of force-curve measurements. Experimental results are presented to show that by ...

In this study, the interaction between the silica filler and polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) was investigated from the aspects of the bound rubber and morphological characterization. With special attention to the dynamic properties, the dynamic test was conducted by dynamic shear rheometer. The results show that the modified fillers disperse uniformly within PDMS matrix without aggregation and con...

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a three-dimensional topographic technique with a high atomic resolution to measure surface roughness. AFM is a kind of scanning probe microscope, and its near-field technique is based on the interaction between a sharp tip and the atoms of the sample surface. There are several methods and many ways to modify the tip of the AFM to investigate surface properties, ...
